NCAAA proudly announces our achievement of receiving a SAGECare Credential! This prestigious credential is a testament to our unwavering commitment to providing an inclusive and affirming environment for LGBTQ+ older adults.

SAGECare awarded NCAAA with its SAGECare Credential after a rigorous assessment of policies, practices, and staff training to create an inclusive and welcoming space for all residents, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

“NCAAA has a long history of improving the quality of life of older adults, individuals with disabilities, and their caregivers in the NC Region regardless of race, culture, sexual orientation or gender. This credential reaffirms our dedication and serves as a tangible reminder of this commitment” writes Damian Humphrey, NCAAA Board President. “We are proud to partner with SAGECare in support of our shared mission to maintain an environment where not only our consumers, but also our employees, volunteers, and vendors can be their authentic selves”.

The SAGECare credential process evaluates organizations like NCAAA based on various criteria, including non-discrimination policies, staff training on LGBTQ+ cultural competency, and community engagement. By meeting and exceeding these standards, NCAAA has demonstrated its commitment to promoting a diverse and supportive environment for LGBTQ+ seniors. And in light of the ongoing epidemic of loneliness and isolation in the United States, these efforts have been and remain a priority for the agency.

“Many of the programs we provide or support through our funding are specifically designed to address the issue of social isolation and loneliness” states Maureen McIntyre, CEO, of NCAAA. “Programs that promote social engagement through intergenerational activities and volunteerism have been extremely impactful, and our ASSIST program specifically focuses on older adults who lack formal or informal support in the community. We believe that PRIDE month is an excellent opportunity to remind the community at large that we’re here and ready to help.”
